Comparative Analysis of Advantages and Disadvantages of AC Led Street Lamps and Solar Street Lamps

In road lighting projects, conventional AC led street lamps and solar street lamps are the two most widely adopted solutions. They differ significantly in power supply mode, operating cost, construction difficulty and application scenarios, so a reasonable selection should be made based on actual demands.

Conventional AC led street lamps are powered by the municipal power grid with mature technology and wide application. Their strengths lie in stable and reliable lighting performance, unaffected by weather or seasons, maintaining constant brightness all year round, making them ideal for urban main roads with heavy traffic and high illumination requirements. They feature simple structure, low initial procurement cost and highly universal accessories for easy maintenance. However, they also have obvious drawbacks. Cable laying and road excavation are required, resulting in complicated construction, long project cycles and environmental damage. Long-term electricity fees bring continuous operating costs. Fully reliant on the power grid, they fail during power outages, and aging lines may cause potential safety hazards, failing to meet the trend of low-carbon environmental development.

Solar street lamps generate power via photovoltaic panels and store energy in batteries as a new energy green lighting solution. Their major advantages include no electricity charges and eco-friendly operation. No cabling is needed, enabling simple installation with minimal damage to roads and greenery, which is perfect for rural roads, residential communities and suburban areas where wiring is inconvenient. Operating independently from the grid, they work normally even during power cuts. Equipped with light control and time control functions, they can automatically adjust brightness to extend service life. Nevertheless, they are restricted by natural conditions. The overall initial investment is higher. Continuous rainy weather may lead to insufficient standby power. Photovoltaic panels and batteries suffer performance attenuation over time and require regular maintenance and replacement. Extreme high or low temperatures also affect battery performance, limiting their application in high-power lighting scenarios.

In conclusion, conventional AC led street lamps are preferred for urban main roads and commercial areas demanding high lighting stability. Solar street lampare more suitable for rural lanes, community paths and scenic parks where wiring is difficult and energy saving is prioritized. With technological upgrading, solar street lamps keep improving in stability and have become a mainstream choice for green lighting projects.
