Badminton court illumination requirements and lighting design suggestions

  An overview of the badminton court lighting in the gymnasium

  There are usually three forms of lighting in the badminton hall, namely natural lighting, artificial lighting and hybrid lighting at the same time. Most of the modern badminton courts are mixed lighting, and the artificial lighting of the badminton court is general lighting. In the design of the badminton hall, in order for the athletes to accurately judge the path, height and landing point, the first thing is to maximize the use of natural light, the effect of natural light is the best, of course, to prevent glare, not to let too strong light shine directly or reflect into the eye. The second is to increase the stability of illumination and the uniformity and coordination of distribution.

  Factors influencing the lighting quality of badminton courts

  The quality of sports venue lighting is mainly considered from the following five aspects:
1) Illuminance level: whether the illumination meets the standard.
2) Lighting uniformity: whether the illumination of the sports field is uniform.
3) Glare: whether the glare is obvious or not.
4) Brightness ratio: the color and brightness difference between the object and the background.
5) Stability of lighting: whether there is strobe or not.

  Illumination standard for badminton courts (GB):
Amateur competition (training): 150lx-300lx, 1st race: 300lx-500lx;
Official Race: 500-750-Higher (1500lx);
Spectator seats: 30lx-100lx;

  Standard arrangement:
1. Use the lamps and lanterns on the ceiling (factory lights/high bay lights) for general lighting, and then add auxiliary light transmission lighting (flood lights) from the higher positions on both sides of the net;
2. Use indoor side walls for side lighting or indirect lighting;
3. The lamps and lanterns should have a light grille to prevent glare;
4. In order to make the white ball have a good contrast with the background, the interior decoration wall and ceiling should be decorated with brown or green, and the floor should be decorated with low reflectivity.

  Suggestions for the selection of lighting fixtures and light sources:

1. The light source adopts high lumen lighting LED lamp;
2. The lamps should have a wide irradiation area, the reflector should be clear, and the integrated lamps and lanterns should be used (commonly used lamps and lanterns such as: industrial and mining lights, flood lights, etc.);
3. The power of the light source is 400W-1000W (or even 2000W) according to the height of the lamp, the density of the lamp and the light demand;
4. According to different competition levels, the lights can be controlled in groups;
5. It is better to put the lamps higher and install them in the upper part of the people’s line of sight.
6. The spacing between lamps and lanterns is larger, and the glare degree will be lighter;
